The live-taught HOCK CIA Preparatory Program is designed to provide all of the necessary information and skills needed to pass the exams on the first attempt. We know the commitment that is needed to pass the exams and have developed our program to make the process as efficient and effective as possible.
The classes focus on the most heavily tested and most important areas of the exam. While most of the syllabus of the exam is covered in our materials and in our classes, not all details are covered. This is because some of the items are unlikely to be tested or will be tested only lightly. To cover all of these topics would require the materials to be much larger than they already are.
It is our belief that success on the exam comes from understanding the material and not just learning some exam techniques and tips. Therefore, our courses and our materials are geared not towards memorizing lists, but understanding the concepts behind them. Additional background is provided in the areas where it is needed. This approach also means that our candidates are able to take more knowledge with them after the exam because they will have learned the material, not just prepared to pass the exam.
The HOCK Program consists of the following elements:
The HOCK classes focus on efficiently and clearly teaching the main topics of the exam, and are taught by experienced teachers who have a proven history of helping non-native English speakers pass professional exams. Asking questions is also encouraged so that any confusing topics are addressed immediately.
The HOCK materials provide the background, examples and definitions that are needed by someone who either has not studied these topics formally before, or who does not have related work experience. This helps candidates by providing all of the necessary information in one place. The HOCK CIA materials include a textbook, flash cards and test software with past exam questions and answer explanations.
HOCK has developed its own materials specifically geared for candidates who do not have a U.S. accountancy education. The textbook maintains its focus on the knowledge necessary for passing the CIA Exams, but provides necessary background where it is needed.
This software contains over a thousand past exam questions. This is a critical tool in the preparation for the exam because it shows the candidate the type and depth of questions that have been asked in the past. With proper preparation and practice, very few questions on the actual exam will be a surprise.
The flash cards are a tool that enables candidates to study at any time and in almost any place. These cards contain questions and answers about the most important topics of the exam. Their small size enables them to be carried and used anywhere.
We understand that not all of the questions that a candidate has will arise during class. Our tutors are available by e-mail or phone between classes to answer questions, and we encourage students to ask questions between classes because it is often the easiest and most efficient way of learning. We can explain something in an e-mail that may otherwise take 2 hours for the individual to learn on their own.
Your time is most effectively spent studying for the exams, not registering for the exams or worrying about other administrative issues. In order to assist in this process, we have provided detailed guidance on the registration process. You may read it and access all of the necessary forms here.
